Interior Ministry launches passport electronic issuance service

 The Interior Ministry launched Monday a new service that allows for the electronic issuance and renewal of passports. 

The new service was launched in cooperation with the Ministry of Information & Communications Technology and the Civil Status and Passports Department.

Interior Minister Samir Mubaidin said the new service aims at improving the level of services provided to citizens and facilitate procedures as per His Majesty King Abdullah II's directives.

This service embodies the real partnership between ministries and concerned authorities, Mubaidin explained, noting that citizens will be able to issue their passport for the first time and renew the permanent ones electronically, with the possibility of issuing and renewing them by visiting the civil status offices as usual.

Civil Status and Passports Department Director General, Fawaz Al Shahwan said Jordanians residing in the Kingdom and holders of national numbers will benefit from this service.

He added that expatriates can benefit from the service later upon completion of technical aspects.

Citizens can make use of the service through the Civil Status and Passports Department's website ( or through e-government services ( in addition to requesting the service at the department's offices.

On how to leverage the service, Al Shahwan explained that applicants must open an e-account that is activated by sending their pictures and ID cards. Then, the department's electronic acceptance office verifies the account and required conditions and data and activates it.

The department has signed an agreement with the Jordan Post Company for delivering the passport according to citizens' addresses or through receiving them at the department's offices, he added.
