Organizational Chart

There are eleven directorates in the Department of Antiquities. Four of these directorates have purely administrative competences: the Directorate of Financial Affairs, the Directorate of Internal Monitoring, the Directorate of Legal Affairs, and the Directorate of Administrative Affairs. The remaining seven directorates have technical and scientific competences: the Directorate of Archeological Excavations and Surveys, the Directorate of Studies and Publications, the Directorate of Laboratories and Museums, the Directorate of Projects and Restoration, the Directorate of Relevant Technical Professions, the Directorate of Supplies, and the Directorate of Cultural and Public Relations. Two scientific units were recently created: the Computer Unit and the Development of Archaeological Sites Unit. These two units depend directly upon the Director General.

 

The Department of Antiquities has nineteen branches all over Jordan. These branches are directly dependent upon the Director General and are in Amman, Madaba, Salt, Ajloun, Zarqa, Al-Kourah, Aqaba, Umm Qais, Ma’an, Karak, Irbid, Tafilah, Ghor Al-Safi, Ghor Shamali, Deir Alla, Mafraq, Ramtha, Jerash and the Desert Castles.

 

We may say that the basic directorates in implementing the duties of the Department of Antiquities in accordance with Paragraph A of Article 3 of the Antiquities Law no. 21 for the year 1988 are the Directorate of Archeological Excavations and Surveys, the Directorate of Studies and Publications, the Directorate of Laboratories and Museums, and the Directorate of Cultural and Public Relations
