Ministry of Digital Economy, Palestinian ICT ministry sign cooperation agreement

Amman, Feb. 16 (Petra) -- The Ministry of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship signed a cooperation agreement with the Palestinian Ministry of Communications and Information Technology in the field of digital economy, exchange of information and applied expertise and skills in the field of post, information and communication technology, and partnership to organize development projects to serve this sector.

The agreement, signed by Minister of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship, Muthana Gharaibeh and Palestinian Minister of Telecom and Information Technology, Ishaq Sider, stipulates the activation of legal frameworks for bilateral ties between the two countries and setting up mechanisms to implement areas of cooperation and coordination of positions in international and regional forums.

In addition, the agreement stipulates the exchanging of information, expertise and experts on activities and projects of the telecommunications and information technology sectors, by encouraging competition and regulatory procedures for regulating the provision of telecommunications services and information technology, developing infrastructure for telecommunications networks and exchanging consultations related to protecting the interests of consumers.

The agreement also includes cooperation in the postal sector through the implementation of joint ventures between the two countries, in the field of improving the quality of postal, financial and electronic services, postal information applications, postal information systems, postage stamp manufacturing and related products.

It further states the cooperation in the field of training, research, studies, leadership, and benefit from the structures and expertise in both countries in fields of research, engineering studies and human capacity development, and opening horizons for exchanging expertise to check on experiences of both countries in the field of receiving complaints from citizens and service recipients in the telecommunications, information technology and postal sectors.

Minister Sider lauded the joint Jordanian cooperation with regard to the provide the Palestinian Ministry of Communications and Information Technology with expertise and other logistical matters that would raise the level of services related to customs, post and other ministry specializations.

He said the agreement comes in the context of the Palestinian move that seeks economic disintegration from the Israeli occupation in light of the practices that piled tons of postal parcels in customs before they arrived in the Palestinian territories.

Minister Gharaibeh expressed the Ministry's readiness to provide its expertise to the Palestinian side in the field of postal shipping, telecommunications and the digital economy.
