Irbid Municipality is considered as the oldest between the municipalities in Jordan, where it was established at 1881 at Al-Tal area, with nearly (700) thousand citizens and its area is nearly (450) square kilometers.

In 2001 a decision was achieved from the cabinet to merge 16 nearby areas to Irbid City to form with the old seventh areas Greater Irbid Municipality.

GIM presents its services for more than 700 thousand citizens, so all its energies, abilities and employers work day and night to achieve its aspirant aims in serving people.

From Irbid Municipality’s belief on the importance of developing Irbid City and keeping its old history and tradition, the idea of developing Irbid City Center Project came and which consists of the historical Al-Tal and the City Area.

The other important projects that the municipality is working to achieve is the project of the comprehensive plan for Irbid City which will define the use of the residential and agricultural lands and prevent the random spread of buildings. Also Irbid Municipality works on establishing vehicles tunnel on the crossroad of king Abdullah 2 Street

and prince Al-Hasan Street with the cooperation of Greater Amman Municipality.

Irbid Municipality takes care of parks subject and the city’s beauty, and the most important parks which it woks to carry out are:

1.        King Abdullah 2 Ibn Al-Hussein parks, which came as a gift from his majesty

2.        A handicapped people’s park at Al-Rawdah area.

Finally Irbid Municipality computerized all its work through connecting the department with an internal computerized web and connecting the areas with a computerized web in the municipality center, this step came to facilitate for people receiving the services and to activate the employers’ role in performing their duty with an organized and quickly shape.
